UFC 303 Press Conference Cancelled: McGregor Issues Statement

McGregor’s Statement on UFC 303 Presser Cancellation

Conor McGregor has issued a statement following the sudden cancellation of the UFC 303 press conference with Michael Chandler, less than 24 hours before it was set to take place. The cancellation has sparked a flurry of speculation regarding the reasons behind the abrupt decision.

Speculations Surrounding McGregor’s Behaviour

As reported earlier by The Sportster, the UFC’s initial statement did not provide any reasons for the postponement. This lack of information led to widespread speculation, with many attributing the decision to McGregor’s recent behaviour, including partying just weeks before his much-anticipated comeback.

McGregor’s Official Statement

Taking to X, McGregor offered an apology to his fans in Dublin and worldwide, although he did not delve into the specifics of why the event was cancelled. He stated:

“In consultation with the UFC, today’s press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control. I apologise to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon.”

Despite the press conference cancellation, McGregor hinted that his main event fight against Michael Chandler is still on track.

Reactions and Clarifications

One fan speculated that McGregor’s alcohol consumption might be behind the mysterious cancellation. However, according to respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the cancellation was not due to any drug or alcohol issues or a drug testing violation. Helwani also revealed that Michael Chandler learned about the cancellation while on his way to the airport and subsequently decided to return to Florida to continue his training.

Helwani mentioned on his MMA Hour series that there is “no salacious story” behind the cancellation, quashing any rumours of misconduct.

UFC 303 Main Event Still On

Currently, there is no new date set for the press conference, but the UFC 303 main event featuring McGregor versus Chandler is still planned to proceed. McGregor, who has been out of action for three years following a leg break in his bout against Dustin Poirier, is eager to return to the Octagon. His opponent, Michael Chandler, has also been out of the octagon for over 18 months, making this a highly anticipated clash.

As the situation develops, fans remain hopeful that the main event will deliver the electrifying showdown they have been eagerly awaiting.
