Tyson Fury Triggers Usyk Rematch Clause for Riyadh Showdown

Tyson Fury Triggers Usyk Rematch Clause, Joshua Fight Looming

In a sensational turn of events, Tyson Fury has officially invoked his rematch clause to face Oleksandr Usyk once more, setting the stage for a much-anticipated clash. Not only that, but plans are also in motion for Fury to take on Anthony Joshua in the near future.

Fury’s Rematch with Usyk

According to Bob Arum, Fury’s US promoter, the rematch clause has been activated following Fury’s defeat to Usyk in Saudi Arabia last Saturday. The fight, which saw Fury lose his WBC heavyweight title and his unbeaten streak, crowned Usyk as the first undisputed heavyweight boxer in the four-belt era. The Ukrainian fighter secured a split decision victory, nearly stopping Fury in the ninth round.

Arum announced, “There’s a rematch clause and Tyson has exercised the rematch clause and that fight will take place either at the end of the year or the beginning of next year.”

This rematch is set to take place in Riyadh, as per the contract signed by both fighters. The previous bout was steeped in controversy, with divided opinions on the rightful winner. “It was such a great fight and it was such a controversial fight. A lot of people thought Tyson pulled it out, some people felt that Usyk deserved the win he got,” Arum added.

Joshua Fight Pending?

In addition to the Usyk rematch, fans are eagerly awaiting a showdown between Fury and Anthony Joshua. This long-anticipated British battle has been a topic of much speculation, but no agreement has been reached yet between Fury’s promoter Frank Warren and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Despite the hurdles, Arum is optimistic about the fight happening soon. He stated, “Next year, win or lose, whatever happens, that fight is something that has to happen because there is so much talk about it in the UK. I would be very, very surprised if that fight didn’t happen at Wembley by mid-2025.”

Joshua, who has not fought since his knockout victory against Francis Ngannou in March, is speculated to face Deontay Wilder next. This adds another layer of excitement to the heavyweight division.

The boxing world is abuzz with the news of Fury’s rematch against Usyk and the potential clash with Joshua. These bouts promise to bring thrilling action and fierce competition, reigniting rivalries and fulfilling long-awaited dreams for fans. As Arum insightfully pointed out, the upcoming fights are set to captivate the boxing community, making 2024 a monumental year for the sport.
